Both the right and the left have now expressed worries about the safety of marijuana. Alex Berenson and Malcolm Gladwell of the New York Times and the New Yorker have suggested that marijuana isn't safe. I have to commend them for using incredibly effective strategies to stoke baseless fear. What they have done is appeal very specifically to the kinds of concerns that make our lizard brain react. When we were first figuring out how to make marijuana legal, we knew that people were afraid of it. This fear came from a place of ignorance.
