A conversation with Don Fertman

Next up on The Audio Files, we discuss producer and bassist Felix Pappalardi. Felix is best know as the producer for Cream's Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire albums. Don Fertman puts on his musician hat to explain that while Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce were each eminently talented musicians- there was discord in the group. Their first effort, Fresh Cream, was a 'muddy mess,' and it wasn't a sure thing that the band would make it. Felix came in and  'broadened out their sound' which led to great success and excellent music.  Don suggests the parallel between the myopia of the first record compared to the brilliance of Felix' work with someone who is in the 'throes' addiction vs. someone in recovery.
